May I Decorate My Cubicle?

It's summertime!  If you always decorate your cubicle for the season, now is the time!  Choose a theme and create a space that makes you smile.

Of course, check the corporate policy where you work, and avoid anything that might be offensive.   But if you are allowed, there are tons of fun things you can do to make your workday lighter - in spirit at least!

Decorate Your Cubicle In Big Ways and Small Ways

Depending on your employer's rules and regulations, you can decorate to the hilt, or just small touches that give you a lift. Many offices allow their employees full rein, and with those jobs, you can get really creative with murals and big posters to allow scenic views.

Basically, there are a few areas most anyone can decorate.

1. There is the edge of your desk just in front of your chair - great for trimmed bumper stickers.

2. Your desktop can contain some themed items, too. Small lamps, little signs, themed notes, pens. A themed bathroom cup can serve as a pencil and pen holder. A beachy saucer can hold your paper clips.

3. Walls - Oh those walls! You can add a huge mural of the ocean that makes you feel you are working at the seashore. Hang posters of your favorite beach. Or photos of your last vacation at the beach.

Have fun with your beach themed cubicle.

Cute ideas! I'm an elementary school teacher so I don't do anything to decorate in summer. But my favorite way to decorate my desk space is with pictures.

Nicely done, Joan. I'll have to decorate my cubicle at home!

Hi Joan, I used to have an office of my own, over looking the street and town where I used to work. I had wise sayings hanging discreetly here and there, sea shells, and quartz stones I found on my daily walks. My colleagues came to sit there and relax, because it was not only relaxing but meditative and healing.

People need to put themselves into impersonal corporate spaces. The world would be a better place because of it!!

Sometimes when I work (at home) I get frustrated and a bit vocal about it, so several years ago my son bought me a small, about seven-inch square painting of flowers in very calming colors with the word "calm" on the picture. That is still hanging in a very prominent place in my little home office corner. When frustrating things happen, that picture is there to settle me down. I love it! Love the beach idea for a cubicle, too!

I think it would almost be essential if you work in the world of cubicles to do something to make it your own. Some inspiring ideas.

I thought about something tropical, that would be nice. The partitions around our cubicles are curved, so probably I would have to put a poster in place, mark the line and cut around it. There are lots of things you can do though to brighten up a cubicle, especially as you spend half your life there.

If I had a cubicle, I would!
