Southern Funerals
Remember the smell of pound cake in the oven, apple pies cooling on the kitchen counter, and a pineapple ham or fried chicken on the kitchen table? These are serious funeral preparations in the southern United States.
If you have never attended a Southern funeral, I feel sorry for you! A Southern funeral is a feast!
If you live in the South, I have to warn you, this book will have you laughing so loud the neighbors will call to see if you are okay. You will recognize every character - most of them live in your town. You know them all quite well.
I immediately thought of a little lady in our small town who went to all the funerals just so she could load her purse from the buffet table. She ate for days on that hastily stolen treasure. We all knew it but nobody ever said a single word.
Being Dead is No Excuse is filled with great southern recipes. It is, after all, a cookbook - albeit an unusual one. Buy it just for the fun of reading it, and then enjoy the recipes for years to come.
Quotes from Being Dead is No Excuse
"The last time somebody was cremated, his ashes were sprinkled from a crop duster. We all ran for cover. We liked him fine, but we didn't want him all over our good clothes."
A true Southern lady always polishes her silver for a funeral reception. ³Maybe it has something to do with an atavistic memory of defending our silver from the Yankees, but it does ensure that the silver will be sparkling, which is nice for a funeral reception.

Talk about a niche! I love the title and it sounds like useful information for anyone.
I think I want to read this book...just the Title alone makes it sound funny :)
Very funny, this time of need is often humorless. That ain't right. I will have to make some southern friends so I can go to some of these sumptuous funerals. Maybe even read the book, or mention it to my wife. She'll read anything.
Sounds to me like the South does it right. I hope after I am gone everyone at mine can have a good time.
Well, Being Dead is No Excuse sounds like a book I will be adding to my wish list. Sounds hysterical!
You're right, why be somber and depressing? The best way to grieve is often through laughter and a good meal with family. Sounds like an interesting book.
Wonder if my yankee mom would appreciate this book? Sounds hilarious to me!
